The Omni district is a colorful landscape of historic structures that offer invaluable character and a unique sense of place. Omni CRA works with the Dade Historic Trust, City of Miami and designated historical property owners to save these structures from demolition and disrepair. Through our Historic Preservation Program, property owners can leverage resources of the CRA to renew historic properties and accomplish mutual goals.
Our Business Incentive Grant Program helps to cover costs directly related to establishing and expanding business within the district. We offer assistance with improvements such as remedying code violations, providing ADA access and eliminating blight in targeted areas. Each grant creates new jobs and activates areas to improve economic vitality, safety and comfort. Small business owners are likely to reinvest in their own neighborhood.
It is our goal to fund $400 million in housing affordability by 2047, in collaboration with the private sector, various government agencies, nonprofit and for-profit developers and local community development corporations. A minimum of 10% of our annual tax increment financing revenue budget is allocated to support these efforts and ongoing partnerships. We employ a number of different strategies to create high-quality, affordable, attainable housing opportunities. These include:
- Helping residents make costly repairs so they are able to stay in their homes and maintain them
- Rehabbing existing buildings in exchange for affordability covenants
- Acquiring properties to build new homes
- Incentivizing developers to set aside a portion of units as affordable.
