We are proud to announce that the Purple Shirts Program has been honored with the 2025 FRA Award for Innovative Blight Management Large City Category. 

This recognition highlights a program that is transforming our neighborhoods by improving public spaces while also supporting individuals on the path to self-sufficiency.

What began as a pilot effort to clean and maintain the Omni district while supporting individuals overcoming homelessness has grown into a year-round community-focused initiative serving both Omni and Overtown.

Every day, our Purple Shirts are out in the Florida heat removing graffiti, collecting trash, caring for green spaces, and helping our district shine. Today, more than 15 residents are earning a livable wage, building valuable skills, and creating stability for themselves and their families.

This achievement is shared with our dedicated partners including the Miami Downtown Development Authority, Camillus House, and Chapman Partnership who help make this effort a strong example of inclusive revitalization.
